I designed a functional health app called Foodie using Figma for our final project in UI/UX Design Fundamentals. The app recommends healthy recipes and brands that prioritize high-quality ingredients.
During the research phase, I created a presentation that outlined the key problems the app addresses and developed eight user personas. The three main issues identified were a lack of reliable information, untrustworthy sources, and the high cost of quality foods. To ensure credibility, I referenced existing apps like Bobby Approved, which highlights trustworthy brands, and incorporated similar standards into Foodie.
Many people believe exercise is the most important factor for good health, but diet plays an equally crucial role. Improving health often starts with choosing better ingredients. However, maintaining a healthy diet is challenging due to hidden sugars in carbohydrates, inflammatory ingredients, and misleading nutrition labels. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the prevalence of low-quality additives and the scarcity of genuinely healthy brands. Moreover, high-quality foods tend to be more expensive and have shorter shelf lives, making healthy eating both costly and inconvenient. The key is to offer creative solutions that make healthy eating accessible.

The primary target audience for Foodie includes men and women aged 20 to 45, typically middle to upper-middle class, who want to learn how to cook healthier meals and identify brands with quality ingredients. They prioritize personal health and fitness and seek to improve their overall well-being and weight management. The secondary audience consists of men and women aged 25 to 60 who aim to build muscle and lose fat. They already possess a solid understanding of nutrition and fitness routines.

I began by creating wireframes for the main app screens. The logo went through several iterations before I settled on a purple strawberry. I chose a familiar fruit to symbolize health, but added an unexpected color twist to make it unique. Ultimately, I developed 121 interactive pages with fully functional links, culminating in a working prototype of a health-focused recipe and brand recommendation app.
